Term of the Week: Agile Manufacturer

Each week Printwear turns to industry experts to learn more about the terms used in the apparel and apparel decoration industry, as well as the business realm. Contact Printwear's digital content editor, Alexandria Arroyo, if you're interested in the opportunity to be featured.

An agile manufacturer is considered to have a flexible and efficient production process because it allows companies to respond faster and quicker to customer’s needs and market changes, in comparison to other methods.  A shop can “earn” this label by creating the processes, having the tools, and training staff to effectively adapt, while keeping control of quality and costs.

One way to achieve this in our industry is by utilizing a modular production system. This system organizes employees to work as collective units to produce a garment, rather than a bundle system, which has specific employees performing specific tasks, such as gathering supplies, prepping, assembling, etc.
