Term of the Week: Off-Contact

Each week Printwear turns to industry experts to learn more about the terms used in the apparel and apparel decoration industry, as well as the business realm. Contact Printwear's digital content editor, Alexandria Arroyo, if you're interested in the opportunity to be featured.

In screen printing, off-contact refers to the distance or gap between the underside of the screen and the compressed surface of the garment during the print stroke. While urban legend has it that a simple coin trick will solve the issue, the off-contact really should vary according to screen tension, substrate, inks in use, and other variables.
