A&E Collaborates with Applied DNA Sciences to Develop Anti-Counterfeiting Thread

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C.—American & Efird (A&E) announces a collaborative agreement with Applied DNA Sciences to develop sewing thread that uses anti-counterfeiting technology. The project uses Applied DNA’s proprietary CertainT platform which identifies, tags, tests, and tracks products to verify sustainability and quality.

"The CertainT program is an innovative solution for brands and retailers in their supply chain,” says Les Miller, CEO of A&E. “A&E and Applied DNA Sciences together are creating new security applications for sewing thread benefitting from revolutionary SigNatureT DNA and Beacon technology.”

Miller adds that A&E’s customers are “increasingly more vigilant and security-minded,” and that the technology helps protect a large swath of products from consumer brands to industrial applications “where integrity of components is mission critical."

"Many products, from running shoes to performance athleisure wear, to luxury brands, can benefit from a secure sewing thread,” states Dr. James Hayward, CEO of Applied DNA.  “A&E's extensive portfolio of products combined with the CertainT platform provide a powerful opportunity to provide a trusted solution for customers who need a true anti-counterfeiting brand protection solution."

The news marks the latest move by A&E to utilize growing developments in the technology world. In the summer of 2017, the organization announced it was aligning with Computer Generated Solutions to streamline its productivity.
