AURORA, Ill.—Embroidery and sewing machine manufacturer BERNINA announces plans to exhibit at Austin Fashion Week, May 18–21. The company appears as part of the Runways and Gallery portion of the event and hosts a series of interviews, presentations, and product demonstrations.
Presentations by the manufacturer include a Facebook Live interview with former Project Runway contestant Amanda Valentine, as well as a collection presentation by designer Lela Orr at the company’s showcase booth. Orr is the winner of the 2016 BERNINA Fashion Fund. The fund, established in 2014, is a partnership between Austin Fashion Week and BERNINA that aims to support local designers. Designers vie for the yearly prize at the event, using the company's machinery to make finishing touches on design collections. This year's lineup features nine finalists, including J. Ewing Designs, Masha Osoianu Design, Ferrah, Nina Means, Monks & Mavericks, Aplomo, Mansion Rose, Ca$hmere Mafiia, and Gwenivx.
“Each year we see amazing design talent, which makes it more difficult to crown just one with the BERNINA Fashion Fund title,“ says Amy Sherfinski, director of marketing for BERNINA of America.
In addition to guest appearances, the company offers demonstrations of its machines during the event and a revealing of the 2017 Fashion Fund winner. The company plans to unveil the winner on May 20. The winning designer receives a BERNINA 560 machine.
