MONTREAL—Dow Jones & Co. names Gildan in the annual the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI). The company has been featured in the DJSI for four consecutive years as of 2016. Gildan remains the only North American company in the textiles, apparel, and luxury goods group in the index.
“Being included on the DJSI World index once again is a great source of pride for our employees, customers, and partners worldwide and a validation that we are investing our energies in the right places to deliver sustainable value to all of our stakeholders,” says Glenn Chamandy, CEO of Gildan. “As one of the largest apparel manufacturers in the world, we acknowledge the impacts of our operations and remain committed to leading the industry by ensuring that no detail is overlooked in producing our product in the most sustainable manner possible.”
The company also marks 2016 as the first year of inclusion in the DJSI North American Index. Both distinctions come on the heels of Gildan’s release of the Genuine Responsibility report. The report cites companywide efforts to reduce production waste, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and make efforts to use renewable energy sources.
