WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Hanes kicks off its annual sock drive to help the homeless. This year’s initiative marks the 10th anniversary of the campaign.
As part of the campaign, Hanes says it plans to donate more than 250,000 pairs of socks to agencies across the U.S. that fight homelessness. The company says it is donating a pair of socks for every order placed on its retail site through December 2019. Additionally, customers can participate directly in the sock drive by visiting the donation section of the retail website.
With the 10th anniversary on the horizon, Hanes says it has provided more than 3 million socks for the homeless.
“Most of us take basic apparel for granted, but we know a new, clean pair of socks can mean a lot to those experiencing homelessness,” says Sidney Falken, chief branding officer, HanesBrands. “We are committed to bringing a little comfort to those who need it most – and it is incredibly gratifying to have others, including many individuals across the country, join us in this effort.”

The project features the participation of more than 100 agencies, including The Salvation Army Bell Shelter (Bell, California), Homeward Bound (Asheville, North Carolina), and Compassion Outreach Ministries (Columbus, Ohio).
In addition to homeless shelters and agencies, Hanes’ drive features a partnership with Rainier Pears through United Supermarket stores, known as Pears for Pairs. Launched in September and running through January 2020, the produce company is donating proceeds of pear sales to the sock drive. In 2018, the effort yielded a donation of 20,000 pairs of socks to agencies.
