ROCK HILL, S.C.—Springs Creative Products Group LLC (SCPG) present first place in the Brave and Beautiful Design Challenge to Mary Buckley Sutton, and in honor of this challenge, SCPG donated $10,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
SCPG, in conjunction with Hancock Fabrics, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Creative Home Arts, launched the Brave and Beautiful Design Challenge in Oct. 2009, a competition for crafters across the country to showcase their creative talents by personalizing a hat for a friend or family member affected by cancer. To participate, crafters purchased an Anne’s Collection cloche hat from Hancock Fabrics and customized it using a variety of embellishments. Hats were judged on originality, creativity and workmanship
Sutton’s design is adorned in shades of hot pink and black and features a zebra motif with more than 60 hand-sewn aurora borealis rhinestones, vintage feathers and veiling. Linda Gorrick received the second place prize for her hat featuring a large pink breast cancer awareness ribbon adorned with pink chiffon, sequins, pearl accents and a pale pink feather.
