WESTMINSTER, Colo.—Melco shares plans to participate and sponsor a team for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) One Walk later this year . The event is hosted by the Rocky Mountain chapter of the organization.
In an announcement on their website, the company explains that the cause strikes a personal chord with the staff.
"My involvement with JDRF started in 1997 when my five-year old son Zacary was diagnosed with Type One diabetes,” says Dale Sanders, president of Melco. “At that time, I knew absolutely NOTHING about Type One diabetes and was totally confused as to what it meant.”
Since that time, Sanders has formed a family walk team and participated in numerous events through JDRF. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain chapter of the organization and has spent time in Washington, D.C. meeting with congresspeople helping to secure support for the National Institute of Health.
“It's important for Melco to be involved in this effort because local businesses and corporations can leverage tools and assets that individuals may not have to spread the word about organizations such as JDRF and their worthy cause,” stresses Justin Schierkolk, marketing manager at Melco. “Many foundations and charities rely solely on the generous hearts of citizens for funding and support, and when the leadership team at Melco feels moved [to] participate, we are happy to take action and get as many involved as possible.”
Melco invites others to join their team for the event which takes place at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden, Colorado on Sept. 16.
