LONDON—Developers in Australia release an app that allows users to explore how apparel companies rank in ethicality and sustainability. Entitled Good on You, the app stores data for more than 2,000 brands.
According to The Independent, the app saw its initial release in Australia but rolled out in Europe last month to become “the largest app of its kind in the world.” Good On You uses data from certifications like Fair Trade, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and independent studies from NGOs like Greenpeace to rank companies.
The program judges companies based on criteria such as global impact, general labor practices, supply chain structure, and water usage as part of its system. Since the app uses publicly-available information, it also rates companies who purposely withhold information a lower score.
