Texas Cotton Gin Named First Certified U.S. Organic Textile Processor

STONY BROOK, N.Y.—Applied DNA Sciences announces its cotton ginning partner, Woolam Gin has been certified the first U.S. organic textile processor by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

The O’Donnell, Texas-based Woolam uses Applied DNA’s molecular tagging system which tags, tests, and tracks organic cotton fibers through a certified supply chain. According to the global certification body Control Union Certifications, Woolam is 100 percent compliant with current GOTS audit requirements.

Companies receive the GOTS mark only after they meet a rigorous set of requirements which include specific material composition, packaging, and labeling standards. The program also reviews social criteria such as working conditions.
