GREENSBORO, N.C.—Unifi lands a partnership with the Wyndham Championship. The deal designates Unifi as the official recycling partner for the annual professional golf tournament.
Through the agreement, Unifi aims to amass raw materials for REPREVE, its proprietary performance fiber made from recycled goods, including plastic bottles. The organizations expect to recycle “tens of thousands” of bottles at the annual event by positioning REPREVE recycling receptacles around the golf course.
"We are proud to partner with the Wyndham Championship to help continue keeping plastic bottles out of the landfill and help to further conserve natural resources in the making of REPREVE recycled fibers," says Kevin Hall, CEO of Unifi. "What if every one of the 80,000–100,000 people who typically attend the Wyndham Championship recycled their water bottle instead of throwing it away? The positive impact that would have on our local environment would be terrific."
In addition to strategically placed recycling bins, Unifi says it plans to offer its REPREVE Mobile Tour at the game. The interactive experience educates patrons on how the company chooses bottles for the fiber, showcases apparel made with the material, and explains how the manufacturing process works.
"This new partnership with Unifi is fantastic news for the Wyndham Championship and our environment," states Mark Brazil, Wyndham Championship tournament director. "Environmental sustainability is a key part of our 'Wyndham Championship Fore! Good' initiative, a platform that also focuses on charitable giving and community development.”
The 2018 Wyndham Championship takes place Aug. 13–19 at Sedgefield Country Club, just up the road from Unifi’s U.S. headquarters.
