What is the average markup on sublimated products?
There is no average. Margins depend on perceived value from the customer’s perspective. However, because sublimation does an excellent job of reproducing photographic images, it lends itself to consistently high margins.
For example, an iPhone cover (one of the top-selling personalized products) costs about $3.25 blank and $0.13 in ink to decorate. With sublimation, that means a photograph, graphics and custom text. Throw in $2 for labor and overhead and it totals out to $5.38. Current retail price for such items is consistently in the $30 range, so that gets you a gross margin of $24.62. Not bad for about three minutes worth of production time.
