What needs to be included on a custom T-shirt label?

If you have your own T-shirt business, don’t overlook the quick and inexpensive add on of heat transfer labels. Making custom label T-shirts is a simple way to set your apparel apart from the rest and can add perceived value. Several wholesalers produce garments with tear-away labels. By using apparel with tear-away tags, you can easily add your own branded shirt labels.

When designing a shirt label, make sure you include:

  • Your company name or logo
  • Size of the shirt: S, M, L, XL, 2X
  • Shirt material content: 100% cotton, 50/50 cotton/polyester
  • County of origin: Your rebranded shirt is likely manufactured outside of the U.S. You can use the statement 'Made in USA with imported fabric.' If you are branding a shirt made in the U.S., brand it 'Made in USA.'
  • Care Instructions: Text and/or symbols are necessary

The T-shirt label is usually in the traditional spot at the top inside of the T-shirt. However, there are several spots where you can place your custom labels, such as on the inside or outside of the T-shirt, on the front, or the back. Experiment with your T-shirt label placement and see what works best for you and your customer and their end user(s). 

The easiest way to apply the transfer is to use a cap heat press, so you do not have to turn all of your garments inside out. Set your heat press to the required temperature for the type of transfer you are using, pre-press the garment to remove moisture and wrinkles, then heat apply the transfer.

The extra cost is worth it, and you will feel accomplished when you fulfill your first order of t-shirts with your labels.
